My crazy idea...

I have been thinking of ways to support Catholic Education w/o asking more of our parents and their businesses. I also see through Facebook and other means what all my fellow Catholic school grads are doing in their adults lives. So I had this crazy idea...

The idea is this - $5.00. If every Catholic school alumni, whether it be for elementary or high school gave $5.00 each year to their alma mater as a way to says thanks, it could help to save some schools. $5.00 per year is not a lot, it's less than many spend on lunch. Most spend way more than that in a month on iTunes or other music. But think about it, the elementary school I currently teach at has been around almost 100 years. That's a lot of graduates. If just those who have graduated in the past 50 years (they were only 11-14 when they left the school) - let's estimate that to be 50 kids per year gave just $5.00, our school could receive around $12,500 per year. That money could make the difference in adding computers in the library, providing a new set of textbooks for a subject, saving a job, offering more services, etc.

So, I am asking for all those people across the country or even the world that attended a Catholic school to donate $5.00 to the schools they attended sometime during this school year. If your school has closed or merged, choose another Catholic school or send it to the Catholic School office in your diocese. Please mark on the check or a note attached to the cash that it is to give a "High Five 4 Catholic Education". Please pass this along to as many people as you can in your circle of friends and family. I would love for it to go viral and truly impact some of our Catholic schools.

Report back if you did give a "High Five 4 Catholic Education." Would love to know what people and schools we are reaching.
